What we do
Sky Discovery supports lawyers working on disputes, regulatory responses and investigations with robust data collection, analysis, management, review, and production workflows. Our client partners are talented and capable lawyers working on great matters but do not, or cannot, access eDiscovery experts and technology within their organisation.
Our global team of experts, 46 and growing – a mix of former practising lawyers, eDiscovery experts, technicians, technologists, and innovators – truly understand the challenges our clients face and work to formulate practical and impactful solutions.
Since our founding in 2016, Sky Discovery has evolved significantly. During this time, the focus has been developing our technical process and benchmarking a best-in-market service for our client partners.
While our technology is critical, we believe our people set us apart. Our investment in creating a team with the right balance of legal, eDiscovery and technology expertise has made this possible. We are an adaptive, ever-evolving combination of people, technology, and solutions.
Hybrid remote work
Hybrid or remote working has always been a part of Sky Discovery and is informed by a broader value of being a great place to work. We have no fixed perspective on how things “should be”, which allows us to tailor arrangements to get our jobs done efficiently, effectively, and securely. This means that some work from the office almost full time. For others, they work from home almost full-time.
At this stage in our journey, hybrid and flexible work arrangements empower our teams to work how it suits them – provided they continue to deliver results. eDiscovery over time
Electronic discovery, or eDiscovery, is often traced back to the early days of numbering documents and managing database data. During the 1990s, technology adoption resulted in abundant hardcopy documents in litigation, making it difficult for lawyers to efficiently search and sort through them using traditional methods. In 2005, the US Supreme Court amended the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) to include emails and instant messages. The rest is history.
Talking history, though, recent findings suggest that Nikola Tesla invented eDiscovery technology in 1938. With the rise of wireless radio use and the loss of essential records during Tesla's many patent court cases against Edison and Marconi, he developed a system to capture, store, and search this information.
Today, most people associate eDiscovery with disputes and the discovery and disclosure process. However, it has evolved to add value to any task that involves reviewing data and documents, extending beyond disputes. It is helpful in any legal environment where electronic documents need to be reviewed by a lawyer. In most cases, it is not a question of whether the technology can help but how it can be utilised effectively.
